I had an unbelievable experience at Michaels. In all of my years I have never felt so disrespected and violated. I went to a Glendale Michaels to purchase some vases that were on sale. I had a coupon for 20% off including sale items. Unfortunately they didn't have all 12 of the vases I needed so I bought the ones they had and was directed to the Burbank Store for rest.

I called Burbank in advance to place 5 vases on hold. I finally get to Burbank in rush hour traffic to find out that they only placed 4 on hold and the other had sold. I kindly asked the lady if she can help me locate one other item that I was looking for. She sent me down the aisle and told me she'd meet me there to provide assistance. After about 5 minutes of waiting I finally gave up and went to the cashier to pay for the rest of my vases.

The cashier was rude and seemed like she hated her job or life. Finally she rang up my items and to my surprise NO discount. She kept assuring me that the system was correct and got agitated with me when I kept trying to explain to her that I had just used my coupon at the other Michaels in Glendale with no problem an hour ago. I finally asked for a manager. Biggest MISTAKE of my life!!! She approaches the cashier, doesn't look at my face and asks the cashier to pull up a bunch of coupons in an envelope, none of which were offered for me to use even when I asked. I was actually told they didn't have any. So with my poor cell phone reception I just tried locating them online while the cashier stood there and took a mini break and the line kept backing up.

Finally the manager Silvia tells me these are on clearance not sale, even though I was repeatedly told they were on sale by every single Michael's rep. I pulled out my receipt and asked her why I should have to pay more for the same item I just bought an hour ago and she couldn't answer the question. Silvia gave me an option very rudely, "Pay up or I'll void the transaction." I was completely and utterly horrified. Silvia continued to argue with me and degrade me in front of all the customers threatening to take away my items like I was a child. Finally I just decided to pay for my items regular price and deal with the situation later. However, she refused to wrap my vases and told me to take my stuff off HER counter. And then to my utter surprise Silvia the "Manager" followed me out the store and told me I was a "Racist *** I was sooooo appalled as were all the other customers. I have no idea what happened or what made her say that as I myself am a minority. Customers followed me out the store to offer their thoughts and own apologies, and contact information as witnesses. I will definitely be filing a complaint with their corporate office. Please stay away from this crazy woman who harassed me and followed me out the store.

Monetary Loss: $110.

Unfortunately, not all items are uniformly clearance priced at all stores. I've seen items of certain colors go on clearance and not other colors. So while something may be regularly priced at one store, it may be clearance priced at another store.

Just for reference....clearance at one store may be regular at another store. It's based off of sales.

If you don't sale them they go to clearance and vise versa.

But the "argument" was uncalled for on the managers part for sure. If you provoked it or not she should have just not responded.

Probably some truth to your experience but sounds a little suspect and rehearsed. I am sure a comment or two has been left out of your story for starters but none the less if you are encountering that kind of hostility from all the staff in a store you need to leave and speak with the store mgr or dm at another time.

From experience though sounds like your 30 minute wait in line story was actually 2 minutes in total. Yep

I doubt the vases were clearance. If they were clearance at one district store, chances are they'd be clearance in another store of that district. Sale items have a small right angle thing next to the,, and clearance usually have a T next to them (at least in my store they do). Sounds like she was just one of those employees (along with the manager) that shouldn't be working there because they don't know how to (or care how to) do their jobs.

The coupons in the bags are all used, and (at my store, at least), we get in trouble for using them again for another customer (unless they're trying to use a digital coupon, and the barcode won't display for whatever reason, though some times we get barked at for that too). We can't even give them to employees who are buying things; as employees we have to find the coupons online ourselves.

I'm truly sorry for your experience. :( :sigh

That envelope is full of coupons that have been used. Why would the store just pass out constant coupons?

It's not like it's a business trying to make money or anything.

Other than that, as a Michael's cashier, I would have called them out in front of all the customers and moved you to my register. Then, if anything could have been done for you, it would've. I know my way around all the cashier policies, as it's MY JOB. If you have the means for a discount, I will find a way to make it work.

Within reason, that is. Too bad you weren't in Florida...
